Finding Calm: Simple Steps to Ease Anxiety

So many people are like me, I have anxiety.

And it's kind of a state of like unwanted agitation. For me, it's often driven by like an unwanted scene or a thought or something. I'm really afraid of just sort of lands in my head very vividly.

And then I get anxious. So I've had to really work hard on figuring out how to calm down. There is a way that you can do it. I'll share with you and it's based on this book, How to Calm down by CJ Kruse, there's a lot of different ways that you can calm down. It's especially important to do this during conflict. So if you find yourself in a conflict or an argument because you're tackling your problems head on, good for you. But you can get kind of angry doing that. So you'll need a little bit more skills.

There's a couple of things you can do with this. This one I use, really just even with my kids to distract them when they're being a little bit jittery and jumpy, and they won't calm down. Identify five things you can see.

Touch four objects around you.

Listen to three distinct sounds, identify two different smells and then taste or remember something and taste one thing. So 54321-54321 for that, right.

Five things you can see label them for things you can touch. You don't have to go touch them to sit there and think about it. Label them.

Name those distinct sounds you hear whether it's like muffling tap on my earphone.

The sound of me breathing, that kind of thing, simple things. It's not hard. Anybody can do this. Kids can do it. Identify two different things you can smell that might be hard if you've had COVID and your smell isn't so good. I hope that's not the case.

But also a taste.

Let's hope you don't have COVID And you can remember we can at least remember it taste. So but remember that way to calm yourself down 54321 labeling seeing, smelling touching, tasting, hearing.

Give it a try.
