Understanding Your Emotions with FeelWise: A Step-by-Step Guide

How do I use FeelWise? First, I want you to figure out how you feel. Look through all the cards. Read the backs. There are some cues in there, like questions, definitions, and things that help you identify if that's how you feel. In this case, let's say you feel mad; that's a common one. On the back corner, it'll say 'resilience, distance.' There's a card in the stack that says 'resilience distance.' On the bottom here, there's a book called 'rage.' So, there's a book in here about madness if you really want to learn more about it. But there are a couple of things in the back that tell you what to do. In this case, it's visualize a stop sign and then relocate yourself to a different place where you're away from the person, place, or thing that's making you mad. Then it says on the bottom, 'resilience calm.' So, you find that card, 'resilience calm.' In here, you'll find how to calm down, which is a book about calmness if you want to go a lot deeper into that. There are three different calming exercises on the back you can choose from, and that's what you do next. Then, this corner here says 'resilience forgive.' So, I'm going to go to this card that says 'resilience forgive.' Again, there's a book on here by Dr. Fred Luskin called 'Forgiveness for Good,' but there's a little shortcut which has a forgiveness exercise on it. After that, you have 'reframe three.' 'Reframe three' is right here. There's a book on cognitive reframing here, neuro-linguistic processing, so sciency stuff. But the basic premise in the back of the card says, 'describe a situation that you find yourself in at the moment. And then imagine alternative scenarios, particularly scenarios from another person's point of view, for example. Then you need to understand what's outside of your control and find a positive spin.' And then, if you're really contemplating things for a longer period of time, you want to think about what may be holding you back and what's triggering the anger, especially if it's something that's triggering you into anger repeatedly. Good luck with all of that. It's not easy stuff, but I promise if you stick with it, it's really worth it.
