Managing Anger with FeelWise: Strategies for Emotional Regulation

"Okay, so this is really cool. Allison wants to talk about getting mad. So what situation is it that gets you mad?"

"Oh my gosh, so I live in Southern California, and people who do not know how to drive, and robbery is a real thing. Sometimes I keep FeelWise in my car, and I will pull out the anger card, the mad card, the annoyed card, and 'distance' is on that card. It will ask you questions related to scenarios. So, I will give myself distance; I'll pull my car over on the side of the road or at a Starbucks, and I will take a break. I'll allow myself to give distance and then calm myself down."

"You know, that's a great case where there are a lot of different sequences and series in this toolkit. But just by doing one thing after the emotion is okay. You can even just identify the emotion and stop there. Do one thing and stop there. There's no grades, no thing to accomplish. It's not like you have to get through them all. Actually, the more you just work on one thing and practice that over and over again, then get ready for the next thing, take it easy on yourself, be kind to yourself. And today, just check in with yourself and find out how you feel."
