Resilience in the Face of Fear: Steps Towards Optimism
Very common category of emotion is fear, and let me tell you how you can be resilient in the face of fear. Well, eventually work towards the mindset of optimism. There are a few steps you can take before you get to optimism to help you get there. If you're afraid, the first thing you do is make sure that you're in a place or with people that you feel safe with. So if you're not, then that's the only thing you need to focus on: getting to a place where you feel safe. Once you feel safe, do a little box breathing. It will help calm you down. Focus on your breath. Kind of dial down the energy, the fight-flight-or-freeze of fear, and breathe. After that, the next thing to contemplate is acceptance. So, what are you afraid of or what's causing that fear? Label it, figure out what it is that's causing it. Acknowledge that and then reframe it. What's a different way you could look at the situation that's making you feel afraid? Maybe from another person's perspective, yourself at a different age, or time in a different situation? There are a lot of different ways to reframe it. And then from there, this could take a while; don't feel bad. This is not like a five-minute thing. But that can lead you to a mindset of optimism, and optimism will help you neutralize and get rid of that fear, process it, and then move into a more positive emotional state. Good luck.
